Nasya Treatment, also known as Nasya Karma, is a therapeutic Ayurvedic procedure aimed at cleansing and rejuvenating the nasal passages. It involves the administration of herbal oils, powders, or medicated liquids into the nostrils.
The procedure typically starts with a gentle massage around the head, face, and neck area to relax the muscles and promote circulation. Then, warm herbal oil or medicated ghee (clarified butter) is administered into the nostrils in a specific manner. This allows the herbal preparations to penetrate deep into the nasal passages, sinuses, and other related structures.
Nasya treatment is believed to have various benefits, including relieving nasal congestion, improving breathing, clearing sinus blockages, reducing headaches, enhancing mental clarity, and promoting overall well-being.
The procedure typically involves the following steps:
Preparation: The individual undergoing Nasya treatment is asked to lie down with their head tilted back slightly.
Nasal Cleansing: Prior to administering the herbal preparation, the nasal passages are cleaned using a saline solution or a mild herbal decoction to remove any excess mucus or impurities.
Administration of Herbal Preparation: The therapist then administers the herbal oil, juice, or powder drop by drop into each nostril. This can be done using a dropper or a special Nasya oil applicator.
Massage: After administering the herbal preparation, gentle massage or pressure may be applied to the area around the nose, forehead, and cheeks to help the herbal mixture spread and penetrate deeper into the nasal passages.
Rest: Following the procedure, it’s recommended to rest for a short while, allowing the herbal preparation to work its way through the nasal passages.
